sixth sunday of easter

  the vineyard workers

Matthew 20:1-16

sunday, june 1

ascension sunday

  seated with christ

Acts 1:1-11; Ephesians 2:1-10

What is the point of the Ascension of Christ? What difference does it make for us? On this Ascension Sunday, Rev. Agnes Taylor will reflect on the gifts and promises of the Ascension of Christ.

sunday, june 8
pentecost
  the breaking of bread

How did and how does the Church respond to the coming of the Holy Spirit? Devotion to the means of grace: the apostles’ teaching, fellowship (koinonia), the breaking of bread, and prayers. Christians responded to the coming of the Spirit sacramentally (baptism and the breaking of bread, or the Lord’s Supper) and by internalizing the teaching of the apostles. Here we get a description of what the Church is to be about in every age.

sunday, june 15

trinity sunday

  belonging to

  the triune god

Matthew 28:16-20; Isaiah 6:1-13

In baptism we are given a new identity, an identity wrapped up in the life of the Triune God–Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

sunday, june 22

  two blind men?

Matthew 20:17-34

After telling his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem to suffer, the mother of two of them (James and John) comes to Jesus asking that he elevate her two sons to be the top two persons in his Kingdom. This is followed by the healing of two blind men, who on being given their sight, follow Jesus. Our text raises a profound question: who is really blind here?

sunday, june 29

  when temples are violated

Matthew 21:1-27

Typically we read the story of “The Triumphal Entry” on Palm Sunday. But what is going on when Jesus enters the city and promptly cleanses the temple? What does this text say about Jesus?
