Sanctuary Rededication and 49th Anniversary SPECIAL SERVICE OF WORSHIP Sunday, August 17 “The latter glory of this house shall be greater than the former, says the Lord of hosts. And in this place I will give peace,” declares the Lord of hosts. [Haggai 2:9] May Haggai 2:9 be a prayer for us as we prepare to celebrate the recent renovation of our church sanctuary. Blessed by the generosity of the late Libba Motzinger, who left a substantial gift to our congregation in her will, we have been able to refurbish and update our sanctuary. On Sunday, August 17, join us for a service of Rededication of our Sanctuary in our regular Sunday worship. On this Sunday, we will also celebrate the 49th anniversary of our congregation. Oak Island Presbyterian Church was chartered on August 15, 1976, as a congregation of the Presbyterian Church in the United States (the PCUS—or as it is often called, the “Old Southern Church”). In 1983 the PCUS reunited with the “Old Northern Church”—known officially as the United Presbyterian Church in the USA) to form the Presbyterian Church (USA). In 2015, after a season of discernment and coming to a settlement with the PC(USA), our congregation became a part of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church. Join us on Sunday, August 17, for this special service of worship, to be followed by a covered dish fellowship meal (bring your favorite dishes!). Together let us celebrate the beginning of our fiftieth year as a congregation!
